Quilting is no entirely new in the world of hobbies. Even in the past, a lot of people, specifically women, turned to quilting as a source of income and as their ‘excuse’ of getting out of the house. Now, quilting is no longer viewed as a necessity. Quilting, these days, is considered as a form of self expression.

To get the hang out quilting, it is important that you get acquainted with some of these timesaving quilting tips so you get to maximize your time and enjoy while you are at it.

First, when it comes to your machine, make sure that it is always clean, oiled well and in tip top condition. It is only a waste of precious time if you have to restitch a seam because the needle skipped. How fast you finish a particular quilting project also depends on the efficiency and reliability of your tools and equipment.

Second, make sure that your workspace is clean and has all the equipment and tools you need. It is highly recommended that you follow the workspace configuration of interior designers which is the “kitchen triangle” workspace. This kitchen triangle workspace would require you to have a ‘machine, pressing, work surface’ triangle. When your equipment and tools are positioned in this manner, it will significantly help you save time and energy when working on large quilting projects. When you have a clear view of all the things that you need, you won’t spend a single second looking where they are.

Third, always use a neutral colored thread when piecing fabrics with each other. When you do this, you won’t have to go through the hassle of changing the color of your thread for every piece of fabric that you have. Since you will most likely work with fabrics in different colors and different hues, you won’t have to worry if the color of the thread that you are using will stand out too much. A neutral shade such as light pink, beige or gray is a good neutral choice for threads.

How about you, what other time saving tips can you suggest for quilting beginners?
